STEM

Congratulations to all classes for their great work in STEM. We have been awarded the Discovery Science and Maths Award again plus an additional award called the Badge of STEM Excellence. The badge of  Excellence for STEM is a third level of achievement that acknowledges schools who have achieved a Plaque of STEM and are demonstrating excellence in their engagement and awareness in STEM.  Well done everybody.

Fís Film Project

Sixth Class short film Hidden has been shortlisted for the 2021 Fís Film Award ceremony. The Film Board is currently preparing the ceremony which will be broadcast later in the term. Congratulations to all involved.

Farm Safe Schools Award

Congratulations Second Class for achieving a Certificate of Accreditation in the Farm School Safety Programme.

Fís Film Project

After winning first place in the FÍS Storyboard Competition for their film Hidden, sixth class were invited to take their film Hidden onto the next stage turning it into a short five minute film. The film documents life in rural Ireland during the Penal Times. It was submitted last week to the FÍS Project competition after an intensive week of filming and editing. The judging panel in the Irish Film Board will view all entries in August. See the full film here.

Junior Entrepreneur Programme

Sixth class pupils participated again this year in the JEP (Junior Entrepreneur Programme) with dynamism and precision. The class presented their business ideas to local entrepreneurs in a Dragons Den format. The product “Dream Outside the Box” was decided as their business venture. Their product not only sold out but it was awarded Special Merit Awards in the following categories:

Science Blast 

Fergal, presented sixth class  with the Science Blast Plaque of Achievement for their  project on "How Music Affects Our Bodies".

BT Young Scientist

Sixth Class received the BT Young Scientist Plaque of Achievement for their presentation on How Music Affects Learning and Concentration.

Old Galway Town Single

Sixth class students took part in the recording of the song Old Galway Town. The song was composed by Ciaran Cannon and Johnny B. Broderick and featured vocalist Michelle Lally. It was released as a single for Christmas and was in the top 5  in the Irish iTunes charts. Click the link to listen.

Junior Entrepreneur Programme

Showcase Day

6th class organised their 'Showcase Day' for JEP recently. The students invited all the classes own to the front of the school to showcase their wonderful work. They explained what JEP is and explained all the different processes and stages involved. Three lucky children won a Chore Board of their own. Thanks for all your support.
